Crowdfunding

Film Revenue:

crowdfunding:the practice of funding a project or venture by raising money from a large number of people who each contribute a relatively small amount, typically via the Internet.

Crowdfunding is a way for people, businesses and charities to raise money. It works through individuals or organisations who invest in crowdfunding projects in return for a potential profit or reward.
 The advantage of using crowdfunding as a budgeting method is that it can be seen as a valuable form of marketing and if a project is successful it can get huge amounts of attention, on social media and elsewhere, which can help them grow beyond what the money raised alone could have done.

Budgeting: is a creative tool and will only help you create a plan to pull off your movie. before you start a budget you need to know;

  •  the story and the script of your movie
  • how many characters are in each scene
  • how many locations are in your story
  • how many wardrobe changes there are
  • how much things cost
  • food- to feed your crew as you are working long hours

the flow of money- the money will be divided between the different departments of the pre-production eg. wardrobe. stunts, props. And if one department needs more money than another there can be compromise and balance as you are all aiming for the same goal to make a successful project.

"you can pull off anything with anything"

Kickstarter campaign- crowdfunding: raised finishing funds for a feature film called Unsound- their goal was to raise $15,000
for things like;
attorneys fees
professional sound mixing
professional colour correction
travel and lodging expenses
film festival submission fees

took about 3 weeks to conseptualize the campaign
successful campaigns are usually 30 days long
the campaign was posted as a pitch video and put on all social medias- personal and movie facebook pages, twitter etc
then they private messaged all old contacts- doctors, friends, ex militants etc
on mental health facebook group from around the world - Canada, uk.
the videos got shared on facebook and twitter
on day 3 they had only raised $1,124 which was only 7% of their goal
on day 11 they were only 11% funded which was %1,683. At this point they should've past the $5,000 mark at least.

so then they pulled the plug on the campaign as it didn't seem to be going anywhere. at this point they had a profit of $2,448.00.

Pyramid marketing structure:Multi-level marketing (MLM), also called pyramid selling, network marketing, and referral marketing, is a marketing strategy for the sale of products or services where the revenue of the MLM company is derived from a non-salaried workforce selling the company's products/services, while the earnings of the participants are derived from a pyramid-shaped or binary compensation commission system.

Enemy of man:

The movie Enemy of Man is an independently financed adaptation of William Shakespeares Macbeth.
They were asking for $250,000 and received $255,564 from over 2500 backers. The director of the film is called Vincent Regan (who is also an actor) and this film is his debut.

Regan is also a veteran of the Royal Shakespeare and National Theatres. The project is also being funded by selling film merchandise such as; signed posters, t-shirts and armour. All money raised went towards taking the film into pre-production, which allowed them to create the concept art, storyboards, scout locations and begin work on the costumes, sets and many other things.

 I think this was successful in gaining funding because as the reader you can see how much time and effort they spent on showing people that their film idea will be successful and putting faith into others who later funded the movie, they also showed people that if they donate, they get something out of it that the general public would not as it was an exclusive feature.

Since it was funded, the film was able to launch merchandise that creating the funding for post production once the film was made.
